    Every year, wildebeest migrate following the rains, arriving in Serengeti’s short-grass plains in November. They stay until April, calving in February, before moving west. This 2-day Migration safari focuses on witnessing this event in the Lake Ndutu area and includes a visit to the Ngorongoro Crater.

    Day by Day Itinerary

    Pick up from Arusha early in the morning and drive to the Ngorongoro Conservation area. On our arrival we descend over 600 meters into the crater to view the magnificent wildlife into the crater, Supported by a year-round water supply and fodder, the Ngorongoro crater supports a vast variety of animals, which include herds of wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, eland, warthog, hippo, and giant African elephants. Another big draw card to this picturesque Conservation area is its dense population of predators, which include lions, hyenas, jackals, cheetahs, and the ever-elusive leopard, which sometimes requires a trained eye to spot. We will visit Lake Magadi, a large but shallow alkaline lake in the southwestern corner, which is one of the main features of the
    crater. A large number of flamingos, hippos, and other water birds can usually be seen here. After a wonderful game drive, we will ascend from the crater and drive to the Ndutu area for the evening Migration safari before heading to the accommodation for dinner and overnight.

    After breakfast, enjoy an early morning day game drive in the Ndutu area. Explore the range of different habitats that include swamps, woodland, soda lakes, and the world-famous Serengeti short grass plains. See great herds of wildebeest and zebras. During a short time frame around February, normally lasting for about 3 weeks, the majority of the wildebeest calf. The sea of grass provides little cover and the young are easy pickings for a variety of predators. Wildebeest calves can run minutes after they are born and within 3 days they are normally strong enough to keep up with the herd. After a wonderful game drive in the ndutu area and seeing the migration, we will then head back to Arusha and straight to the airport to drop off those who will be required to catch a flight home on the same day.
